Bucks Music Group signs Sick Joy to exclusive publishing deal

Trio launched debut EP in March and have already amassed 100,000 streams

London, 18th September 2018 Bucks Music Group has signed Brighton-based heavy pop trio Sick Joy to an exclusive worldwide publishing deal.

The deal follows an administration agreement already in place between Bucks and the band.

Birthed in Newcastle, Sick Joy moved south to Brighton in 2016 and played their first show to a sold-out Patterns with fellow north-to-south Brighton bands Demob Happy and Tigercub.

The band kicked off 2018 by headlining and selling out Camden Assembly Rooms as part of the venue’s Spotlight showcase events and confirmed supports with the likes of Feeder, Tigercub, Honeyblood as well as appearances at Camden Rocks and 2000 Trees festivals.

After being awarded Help Musicians and Pledge Music’s Emerging Artists Fund, Sick Joy released their debut EP Amateurs in March 2018, including the singles Smiling Shame, Senses and Stumbler. The release coincided with a sold-out show at Green Door Store in Brighton which lead to the band signing to X Ray Touring and a full tour announcement for October 2018.

With over 100,000 streams and support from the likes of Radio 1, Kerrang, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and Radio X, the band intend to add to an already incredible year with new music in Sept 2018 via Say Something Records.

A&R Assistant at Bucks Music Group, Hannah Vincent, said: “I came across Sick Joy at their Camden Assembly show back in January and was completely blown away. Their ongoing drive and creativity makes them one to watch out for. We’ve created a team that I’m proud to be a part of and I’m extremely excited about the future.”

Bucks Music Group’s Director Creative A&R, Sarah Liversedge Platz, said: “Very proud to say this is Hannah’s first signing to the Bucks roster – her enthusiasm and passion for Sick Joy all fell into place for me when we caught the band’s show at Camden Rocks. Their energy on stage is ridiculous and there is a real strength and richness to Mykl Barton’s songwriting.”

Sick Joy’s manager, Tom Lynam, said: “I’m really excited to be working with Hannah, Sarah and the team. Their enthusiasm and passion for Sick Joy is incredible. The future of guitar music is an exciting place to be right now and a Bucks Music, Sick Joy collaboration is a perfect match.”
