First Sound City Ipswich set for October

One-day festival and conference will bring together artists and executives

Liverpool, 29th July 2019 Sound City will land in Ipswich on Friday 4 October for a one-day music industry conference and multi-venue festival – the first of its kind for the town.

Sound City Ipswich is a partnership between the company behind the famous Liverpool Sound City, Out Loud Music and the team at The Smokehouse music venue in Ipswich, with support from Arts Council England, Ipswich Borough Council and the University of Suffolk.

The new Sound City event will bring Ipswich to life with an evening of musical programming, fringe events and street food.

Ticket holders will be able to gig-hop between The Smokehouse, Manor Ballroom, Corn Exchange and Corn Hill, taking in the best of local, regional and national talent.

The Sound City Ipswich music industry conference will showcase the area as a destination for artists, labels, booking agents and other industry figures. It will provide opportunities for the local community to meet with industry professionals who will attend from across the UK to take part in the talks and networking sessions.

BBC Introducing in Suffolk will host a free to attend stage at the festival.

Sound City CEO Dave Pichilingi said: “Sound City has always been about making friends and building relationships regionally, nationally and internationally. Our mantra is always to champion the best emerging creative and business talent we can find. The Smokehouse has provided an amazing spotlight for the breadth of talent that is coming from Ipswich and the region. It is our aim, through the Sound City brand and our partners, to magnify this and give it the credit and attention it deserves on a wider platform. We are very excited about this launch event and looking forward to building something beautiful together over future years that can feed into our other UK events as well as those abroad.”

Sound City Ipswich and The Smokehouse’s Joe Bailey said: “We’re really excited to partner with Liverpool Sound City to bring a multi-venue festival to our home town of Ipswich. We’ve been helping incubate the local scene over the last two and a half years with The Smokehouse and it’s a really exciting prospect to be taking this forward on a larger scale. We hope to create an aspirational day for artists and audience members alike, showcasing some of the best regional talent alongside national artists, shining a well-deserved spotlight on the town.”
