MEMORIST release 2nd single 'Second Sequence' on Year Of The Rat Records

The band release a new visualiser ahead of Friday on Dreambound and Metal Injection

UK, 4th August 2021

MEMORIST – so named due to frontman Jon’s inability to forget – are a six-piece alternative metal outfit that craft powerful emotional journeys for the listener, through Jon’s personal experiences and perceived injustices. Layered in satisfying atmospheric textures and driving choruses, MEMORIST are experts in creating tension only to explode into a salvo of memorable melodies and lyrics to identify with. Influenced by the likes of Deftones, Northlane and Hans Zimmer, and having already garnered a wealth of recognition from fans, industry and contemporaries alike, MEMORIST have enjoyed the position of “Featured Artist of the Week” on Alex Baker’s Fresh Blood show on Kerrang! Radio along with numerous plays of their four initial singles by the presenter. The band have featured on live streams from Tesseract’s Dan Tompkins and Fit For a King’s Ryan Kirby and have over 1.3 million combined YouTube views across their four music videos, and approximately 1.6 million streams on Spotify alone (with a monthly listenership of over 101,000 active fans).

The band recently announced signing to upcoming UK based label Year Of The Rat Records and released their first single ‘The Empiric’ on the 9th July 2021. The band have since landed coverage with the likes of Metal Injection, BBC, Kerrang TV, Kerrang Radio, Sirius XM Octane, Lambgoat, Dreambound, Heavy Mag, KnotFest, Idobi Radio, Total Rock Radio, Distortion Radio, Endeavour FM and many other respected publications. The track also landed a plethora of official playlisting with Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, Pandora and more. ‘Second Sequence’ will be released on the 6th August 2021 and the band will continue to release many more singles over the course of the remainder 2021.

Speaking about ‘Second Sequence’ vocalist Jon says “ Despite being called “Second Sequence”, this song was actually the first to be written (instrumentally) as part of the new material that we are now releasing. Interestingly, it’s the only song that we have ever written as a band in our practice space when rehearsing, rather than writing it either collaboratively in the studio or remotely in our respective home studios. This is also the first song we’ve written to be seeded by Benji (drums) who came up with beats for the verse and chorus on the spot for Chris and Ash (guitars) to write their parts to, with the goal of achieving a pace in the song that we had not really built into any of our singles so far. Lyrically, the song came together much later and was guided heavily by experiences in Jon’s (vocals) life towards the end of 2020, resulting in “Second Sequence” being the first song to be started, but the last one to be finished.”

“Second Sequence” catalogues the changing dynamics in a family with two young children. The verses consider how parents adapt and overcome with their children; firstly, the lengths to which a father goes to so that he can help as best he can a mother who struggles with a lack of sleep and a loss of identity, through to a shift in the mother’s personality and attitudes towards both him and the children as time goes on. The chorus deals with the aftermath of a terrible tragedy, the levelling of blame towards the father and sheer abandonment by the mother despite the father’s best actions to hold the family together. This culminates in the feeling of isolation and disintegration felt by the father as his family collapses around him; desolate and destitute.
