Merlin, the independent’s digital music licensing partner, and Supernatural, the popular VR fitness app for Meta Quest headsets, today announce an exciting new partnership. The deal will bring the music of independent artists via Merlin members to soundtrack workouts on the virtual service.
Supernatural uses the power of virtual reality — through the Meta Quest 2 — to provide members with immersive health and wellness experiences that replace the dread and repetition of home workouts with unparalleled joy, awe, and wonder. The connected fitness service integrates both mind and body movement into its daily sessions that include Boxing, Flow, Supernatural’s original full-body workout, Guided Meditations, and Recovery.
The partnership provides a thrilling new opportunity for Merlin, which seeks to bring independent music to music lovers in a variety of engaging digital formats. Merlin enables independents around the world by navigating the musical ecosystem and striking premium deals with key digital partners. Its members represent the most diverse catalog of music in the world, spanning more than twenty thousand labels and hundreds of thousands of artists from every country in the world, accounting for over 15% of the global music market share.
This includes members such as Absolute Label Services, a UK-based distribution and services provider to independent artists and record labels; Madrid-based Altafonte, a fast-growing independent music and technology company and a leader in Latin America; AfricaGent LTD, a full-service artist agency headquartered in Nigeria; UK-based Beggars Group, one of the world’s largest, most influential independent label groups; Dim Mak Records, an independent, Los Angeles-based record label; Fluxus Inc., an independent music distributor offering new direction to the South Korean music scene; and !K7 Music, a multi-faceted music company based out of Berlin, London, and New York.
“At Supernatural, connecting our members with music that moves and motivates them is the heartbeat of nearly everything we do,” said Chris Milk, co-founder and CEO, Supernatural. “Our partnership with Merlin goes beyond the confines of popular culture, engaging a world of independent sound. We are thrilled for what it will unlock for our members: Thousands and thousands of artists and songs, and the opportunity to discover even more music you love.”
“At Merlin, one of the things we love most about independents is their enthusiasm about harnessing the latest platforms and technology to find new ways to connect with and create new fans,” said Jeremy Sirota, CEO, Merlin. “That excitement is one of the factors that drives us to partner with companies on the cutting edge of music discovery. We’re thrilled to bring our members’ repertoire to the wide array of digital workouts and activities on Supernatural.”
Supernatural launched in April of 2020 as the world’s first subscription-based, full-body fitness service for virtual reality. Designed for Meta Quest and paired with your smartphone, Supernatural provides users with expertly coached daily workouts, detailed fitness tracking, an expansive catalog of music and a chance to exercise in the world’s most beautiful locations without ever leaving home.
