Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears to release debut solo album via Absolute

Self-titled LP lands on August 10. Lead single, Creep City, out now

London, 5th June 2018 Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears will release his self-titled debut solo album on August 10 through his own label, Freida Jean Records, via Absolute Label Services.

Shears’ deal with Absolute will see the label services company provide sales, marketing, distribution and more in support of the album.

Pre-orders for the LP, along with lead single Creep City, went live on Friday, May 25, and were kick-started by an incredible live performance on the Graham Norton Show.

Scissor Sisters earned four Top 5 albums in the UK between 2004 and 2012, including their self-titled No.1 debut, No.1 follow-up Ta-Dah, Night Work (No.2) in 2010 and Magic Hour (No.4) in 2012.

They also have nine Top 20 UK singles including 2006’s chart-topper I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’.

This is Shears highly anticipated first full-length work since 2012, when the band went on hiatus.

Written over two years, the new album’s initial ideas were recorded in New Orleans’ famed Marigny Studios, before Shears decamped to Louisville, Kentucky to record the album with Kevin Ratterman (Ray LaMontagne, My Morning Jacket) at his La La Land studio.

The record follows Shears’ debut on Broadway with a leading role in Kinky Boots earlier this year. He also released his critically acclaimed autobiography Boys Keep Swinging, which was written in tandem with this album, in March.

Dates for a UK tour have also been announced, with Shears visiting London, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow and more from August 15 to August 24.

Absolute Senior Label Manager Fraser Ealey said: “We are excited to be working with Jake on this very special debut solo album, which combines his unique sound with a sprinkling of Scissor Sisters. Jake is a prolific writer, performer and professional, and we have put together an extremely focused campaign, which includes a superb D2C offering together with a targeted approach to media campaigning and retail marketing.”

Neil Hughes, from Punkdafunk Artist Management, said: “The mixture of enthusiasm, persistence, professionalism, attention to detail and genuine love and understanding of Jake and his new music made Absolute a great fit for launching his solo career in the UK.”
