Sentric doubles Academy Fund

Indie publisher extends initiative to 24 emerging acts

Liverpool, 5th May 2020 Sentric Music Group is doubling the number of acts that will benefit from its Sentric Academy Fund this year, in response to the current climate and the difficulties many artists are facing.

The Sentric Academy Fund was launched at the end of last year, offering 12 artists per year £1,000 to be used in any area of their work including writing, recording, touring and marketing.

The independent publisher will now fund a total of 24 acts over the course of the year.

Three acts have already been funded by the initiative (Marc Jones, Varley and Junk Drawer), meaning 21 more acts will benefit in 2020.

The fund is open to new and existing Sentric clients, with submissions remaining open until the end of July. Three funded artists will be announced each month in May, June, July and August. A second round of submissions will then open in September with a further three acts being named in October, November and December.

The Sentric Academy Fund is based on the company’s popular recurring blog post that asks some of the music industry’s brightest minds what they would do with a £1,000 budget as an emerging artist.

On three separate occasions now – firstly in 2014, then in 2017 and 2019 – Sentric has asked the music industry to complete the sentence, “If I was an emerging artist and I had £1,000 to spend then…”

Over the years, the resulting blog post has offered new artists invaluable advice and insight from top industry insiders across a range of companies including Live Nation, Soundcloud, ITB, TuneCore, the BBC and more.

Sentric Artist Services Manager James Cherry said: “Supporting emerging artists has always been at the forefront of what we do here at Sentric and in this time of uncertainty where many acts are at risk of having their career trajectory stunted prematurely, the availability for early-career funding has taken on a renewed importance. We launched the Academy fund to help bolster that availability and it felt only right for us to double the number of acts that we initially announced. In doing so, we hope to help some of our talented artists weather this storm and come out the other side stronger.”
